4 Luxury Design Trends in 2023
If you’re someone who wants to live in style as well as comfort, join the club. Just because a property comes with a premium price tag doesn’t guarantee it will showcase elegant interior design.
When you start shopping for your next high-end home, keep an eye out for these four luxury design trends in 2023.
1. Indoor-Outdoor Flow
Some of us are still recovering from the Covid-induced screen time. And so our appreciation for the natural world continues.
Nowhere is that more evident in interior design than in, well, the exterior. Architecturally speaking, we’re seeing the combination of indoor living spaces and outdoor kitchens.
In Hawaii, we’ve been perfecting this merge for ages: it’s called a lanai.
Color palettes are also feeling the call of the wild with lush earth tones. Warming browns and indulgent pinks are replacing stark whites and dreary grays. Experts from Vogue predict mauve as this year’s color.
2. Let There Be Light
This year, luxury homes are absolutely reveling in the soft, warm glow of statement piece lighting: opulent chandeliers as well as lamps shaded with paper, fabric, and silk materials.
And, of course, an abundance of natural light is always in vogue. Panoramic windows and glass walls invite glorious sunshine, even in miserable Manhattan.
Views of Central Park are nice enough… but move to Hawaii and those floor-to-ceiling windows will display dramatic coastlines, volcanoes, and lush vegetation.
Situated on the west coast of Hawaii, Kona is an ideal location to enjoy stunning sunsets. This side of the Big Island is also the place to be for sun chasers. (The east side is the wet side thanks to trade winds and other geographic features.)
3. Natural Wood Kitchens
Say goodbye to sterile all-white kitchen designs.
Natural wood features are yet another way to blur the boundaries between interior and exterior. In the kitchen, wood paneling and cabinetry can make a house feel equal parts elegant and homey.
Herringbone floors coupled with marble are just one example of rich textural combinations that make even the most practical indoor spaces a destination.
4. Extra-Special Specialty Rooms
I think it’s safe to assume that anyone who had the means found a way to upgrade their home-office situation during the pandemic. But Covid influenced interior design beyond forcing us to ask, “What color should I paint the wall behind my laptop camera?”
It ushered in the age of the specialty room: gyms, saunas, wine cellars, home theaters, and gaming dens. Who says your home can’t have its own wellness spa?
Even on the other side of lockdowns, we’re still appreciating ways to turn our homes into sanctuaries. In 2023, that means embracing luxury amenities once only found in exclusive resorts.
What’s In, What’s Out
Living somewhere you love is always fashionable. Whether you’re clinging to mid-century modern or ready to re-embrace brutalism (apparently concrete floors are having a comeback), give me a call.
I’ll help you find a home that exceeds your day-to-day needs and fulfills your wildest aesthetic fantasies.
Aloha, and welcome to Hawaii.
