Did the pandemic have you watching a little too much HGTV with more than enough spare time on hour hands? Apparently, so did everyone else! Home projects during COVID rose by 58% across the country! If you’re one of those pandemic home remodelers (or if you’re thinking of jumping in on the craze), here’s what’s trending in kitchens in 2022.
White Still Reigns Supreme…
Like the past couple years, white still take the crown as the most popular color for cabinets and kitchens in general. However, if you don’t want to put on sunglasses every time you stare at your brightest of bright kitchens, there’s another trend going around that might interest you.
…But with a touch of color
Yes, white is still the most popular, but trendy designers are adding a splash of color to break up the white.
Most commonly, people are painting their cabinets give their kitchens more warmth and additional color. The most popular cabinet color (aside from white) is a medium green, though some people like brighter colors like bright purple or deep blues.
You can also add some drama with quartzite backsplashes and countertops.
You can also go with wood grain
Nothing adds warmth to a space like good old-fashioned wood grain. If you’re not feeling the straightforward painted look, you can cover your cabinets in a wood veneer. When up against the white of the walls, backsplash, or countertops, the wood grain looks fantastic in both modern and rustic kitchens.
Layers of light
With so many options of LED lights available today, designers are getting away from choosing the same old lighting options for the entire kitchen. Instead, they’re creating layers of light to highlight different areas around the space.
For example, you can choose a brighter, cooler 3000K light for over workspaces and keep ambient lighting warm with a 2700K light. The differences in color will add layers to the space and create a unique effect.
The new appliance craze: Steam ovens
Steam-powered machines might not be as popular as they used to be, but they’re making a comeback. This time, it’s in the form of ovens.
In 2022, it’s all about the steam ovens. Steam ovens, as you might have guessed, cook with steam instead of convection heat or air. It holds vitamins and flavors in for healthy and delicious dishes. It’s especially great for vegetables and grains.
Fulgor Milano makes a great 30-inch steam oven that can also work with convection and combo convection/steam. It also offers smart capabilities, so you can preheat or turn off the oven right from your smartphone.
Large flooring tiles
When it comes to choosing kitchen tiles in 2022, the bigger the better! Many designers are going for a seamless look on both floors and backsplashes with large flooring tiles—sometimes up to 30” x 60”! Choose a tile with a fun pattern to make a statement piece that can’t help but stand out.
What’s better than one island?
Everyone likes a good kitchen island. It gives you tons of space to prep and looks going doing it! Well, in 2022, designers are opting for not one kitchen island, but two!
If you have the space in your kitchen, putting in a second kitchen island can greatly expand your kitchen work area while keeping a nice open feel to the space. It can work like a border between other spaces in the home without blocking views or limiting flow.
Coastal island views
At the end of the day, the best kitchen design trend in 2022 is sweeping coastal views when you look out the window. Unfortunately, that’s not something you can just install, but it is an easy fix. Maybe 2022 is your time to move to Hawaii and get that kitchen you’ve always dreamed of!
